In the month of April, 4th and 5th grade students from Harrison and Van Buren Elementary Schools had the opportunity to tour Kirkwood Community College, Coe College and the University of Northern Iowa. Each grade got to tour one school, and students were captivated as each college outdid itself spending the day showing the best of each college.
Students received college ID’s at Coe, ate in the dining center with college students at UNI and run in the UNI Dome, and walk through a college apartment at Kirkwood. Each school went to great lengths to show our students what could be in store for their future when they get older. The colleges all provided a campus tour and students received the opportunity to talk to current college students, ask questions, learn about different majors and expand their knowledge about the incredible opportunities that college provides.
Kids on Course dreams that each of our students will someday commit to post high school education to further prepare themselves for a bright future. We have committed to coming alongside our students and families by supporting them in knowing how to best prepare for college as they move forward in their education. We know that Kids on Course students are capable of attending college and being successful and these trips are just one of the many experiences and conversations Kids on Course students will have regarding their future plans and where their dreams can take them.
