“I am an ordinary person who was been blessed with extraordinary opportunities and experiences.” – Sonia Sotomayor (First Hispanic Supreme Court Justice)
“Education is that the whole system of human training within and without the school house walls which molds and developed men.” – W.E.B. Du Bois (First African American to earn a doctorate from Harvard)
The last days of school signal the beginning of the summer break. Learning will continue outside the school walls, as Du Bois says, but learning needs to continue. As I complete my first whole school year working at Kids On Course, I see a big transformation in many of the students. Compared to the beginning of the year, they show more confidence and ask more questions. Sometimes they share their ideas and if we are lucky, even their dreams.
While we are not going to see all of our students during the summer, in the fall, we look forward to them returning as taller, stronger, and smarter individuals. We are so excited to start again next year with new opportunities and experiences for our students, because we are confident that we are helping a generation of Kids on Course students become pioneers and trailblazers as Sotomayor and Du Bois have been in their respective fields.
