Summer is a time when people, especially students, want to get out and have fun. For students with Kids on Course, they not only get to have fun, but learn as well! Last year, students gained academic skills from our four week summer day camp, so we are eager to see the results from attending camp for six weeks this summer! Kids on Course supports programs at Harrison and Van Buren, like the Operation Backpack and Girls on the Run. Operation Backpack is a program that offers nutritious food to students for the weekend. It is through HACAP food reservoir in Linn County. Girls on the Run is a running club that helps girls strengthen their emotional, physical, and spiritual health in a fun and safe environment.
I love being able to see the students grow and learn thanks to Kids On Course. My first experience with Kids On Course was summer camp. I was not only able to meet the students and build a close relationship with them, but also be a part of helping them learn new skills. Seeing them get excited about learning made summer camp more enjoyable for everyone.
I have even seen the students grow through the other activities over this summer, like running club, swim lesson, and golf. Every time I ask the students what they thought, I would hear “loved it,” “I want it to be longer,” and “The games are awesome!” It makes me excited to know that I was a small part in bringing these experience to the students.
