Summer Programs

Summer learning loss accounts for 2/3 of the achievement gap in the United States. This is why Kids on Course has three academic summer programs for students who are at risk of losing academic skills and becoming further disengaged in learning over the summer. Kids on Course University is for elementary students,  Scholar Camp is for middle school students, and High School Academy is for high school students.

KIDS ON COURSE UNIVERSITY

Low income students can lose up to 3 months of learning over the summer. Kids on Course University is a free, seven-week summer program that serves over 700 kids from 21 schools in the Cedar Rapids Community School District. Most of our students live at or near the poverty line and didn’t just stay steady over the summer, they GREW in math, reading, and writing.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SCHOLAR CAMP

Scholar Camp is a free five-week summer program intended to prepare middle school students for the upcoming school year and build positive adult and peer relationships.

Students participate in project learning, book clubs, and keep their academic skills fresh over the summer.

HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMY

Incoming freshmen at High School Academy learn study skills and work on core subject areas they may have struggled with in middle school.

Older high school students participate in service learning opportunities and concentrate on improving subject areas they struggled with the previous school year.
